I hope this post won’t bore you – it’s a full-on project dump! Probably not the best way to engage a reader BUT I feel like I’m so far behind in sharing what’s been keeping me occupied in my sewing room that this is the only way to catch up. Get ready for a picture heavy post!

Firstly, the Works In Progress:

The Jelly Roll quilt, begun the weekend of National Jelly Roll Day. I mistakenly made 15 instead of 12 Log Cabin blocks – don’t ask how much time I wasted spent fiddling about to create the extra log strips I didn’t actually need 🙄 Anyhow, I persevered, felt proud of the orange flange between the two borders and used the extra Log Cabins, excess Jelly Strips and more of the border fabric to piece a scrappy backing.

The quilting is completed: in the ditch between the inner border and the Log Cabins to stabilise the quilt sandwich; a spiral quilted from the centre of the Log Cabins to the edge of the first border; and lines of a wavy stitch in the borders. I’ve made the binding using the inner border fabric and my machine is set up ready to attach it and complete the quilt 👏

The Fall Foliage Quilt is keeping my brain cells busy as I familiarise myself with the cutting instructions and the Diamond ruler. Placing the ombre fabric background pieces is a fun exercise. I have cut quite a few of each shape so I can mix and match pieces depending on their depth of colour. This will be on my design wall for some time…

My third WIP is at the pattern writing stage. I’ve scheduled a Beginners Patchwork & Quilting Course for the New Year and have decided to teach the process of making a quilt through the construction of a table runner. This is the design:

Now for the Back Catalogue:

Back in May we welcomed our first Grandchild into the family. As you can imagine his arrival prompted several projects as proud Nana expressed her joy by creating!

This is the my version of the Craftsman Quilt by Amy Smart. I added in the novelty print rectangles to make it into a bit of an I-Spy quilt. I love the zebra print binding!

This quilt measures 41″ x 49″. It looked enormous when compared to the intended recipient (then only a few weeks old) so I used the left overs to make a much more modest sized playmat!

The larger quilt is still hanging on the wall behind my sewing machine. When the room morphs into our guest room the little chap’s travel cot is placed just below the hanging quilt.

Another baby inspired project was the brought about by the need to reconstruct a fabric baby book. I found the book in our children’s toybox. Thinking the book really should have a wash after being stored away for the best part of 25 years, I cheerfully ignored the ‘sponge clean only’ washing instructions and put it through a machine cycle. Of course the polyester wadding/batting between the fabric pages balled up and just wouldn’t lie flat.

I unpicked seams, removed the nasty polyester fillings, replacing them with natural fibre wadding/batting. I hand sewed the seams back together before machine stitching through the page layers to (hopefully) hold the wadding in place through future spins in the washing machine!

That’s the baby inspired projects.

Next a couple of efforts to kick start my on-line shop sales…

Tote bags made from a panel of nature themed holiday posters.

And I experimented with a bit of free-motion card making.

Checking through my photos I think I have now shared most of the making that’s been going on in my sewing room since May. There’s one more quilt to share (I’ll maybe pop that in a Friday Finish post) and I’ve already posted the Advent Calendar tutorials.
