I’m so happy to be back in finishing mode! Earlier this week I put the final stitches into my version of the Little House quilt designed by Melva of Melva Loves Scraps. Her design was inspired by the Little House on the Prairie books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I read and re-read those remarkable tales of life on the move West through my childhood and on into my adult life too.

This quilt is mainly made from fabrics found in my stash with a few added to match the colour palette – harking back to when I first started quilting with all those repro-Civil War prints so popular a decade or more ago. I added a border made in a simplified ‘delectable mountains’ style.

On the back is a fun Lori Holt extra wide print, ‘Farmers Daughter’. It’s a lovely soft cotton. I added a label too…

The quilting design is a wavy line cross-hatch which is sort of ‘modern’ but with a strong nod to straight line cross hatch designs.

I made the scrappy binding from left over print fabrics from the patchwork blocks.

I often make adjustments to patchwork patterns or write my own block patterns from scratch. Quite a few are available as FREE downloads over in my Payhip Store. If you are doing ‘Christmas in July’ you might find my Tree Skirt pattern a handy way to use up left-over festive prints 😉
