Patchwork and Quilting Courses with Allison Reid, Basingstoke Hampshire.
I have been patchwork quilting for more than ten years. As my knowledge of this craft has grown and my skills have developed it has been my great pleasure to lead classes: passing on what I’ve learned; seeing anxious beginners gaining confidence; and more experienced students successfully tackling fresh techniques and challenges.
Several of the courses and workshops I lead are hosted by Viv Poon of Purple Stitches, Basingstoke. To access course and booking details please use the links provided.
I look forward to meeting you soon 🙂
Feedback from recent courses:
‘Super Workshop. Demonstrations very clear and lots of help if you needed it – but sensitively done. Instructions/pattern very clear and easy to follow.’
‘I achieved everything I hoped to. Allison’s patterns and instructions were excellent and her demonstrations were easy to follow and not rushed at all. Allison has great patience and is very encouraging . Foundations paper piecing has always been a complete mystery to me but I finished 3 tree blocks by lunchtime thanks to Allison’s 1-1 help’.
NEW for 2022
Make a Patchwork Bargello Table Runner £37
Saturday 16th July, 10am to 4pm
At Old Down Hall, Basingstoke, Hampshire.
To book please email me at email@example.com
Course details – Making a Bargello Table Runner
In this workshop we’ll look at Bargello designs and consider colour and fabric choices; we’ll work step-by-step through the process of creating a Bargello style block; take time to evaluate what we’ve learned from our fabric choices; and see how to complete our table runners using a no-binding, quick turn method.
There may be time to begin quilting your table runner so please bring along the backing and wadding.
- Experience of rotary cutting and machine patchwork piecing.
- General sewing kit.
- Sewing machine in good working order: capable of producing ¼” seams. Optional: walking foot or free motion foot.
- Iron and pressing mat (optional).
- Rotary cutter, mat (ideally 24” x 18”) and ruler (12” x 6” or similar).
- Basting pins and masking tape.
- *Seven (7) 2½” x 42” strips of quilting weight cotton fabrics (leftover strips from Jelly Rolls are ideal!).
- Backing fabric 16” x 36”
- Wadding 16” x 36”
- Binding (optional) 0.25m
- Piecing thread
- Quilting thread
*Bargello designs generally have a graduated colour scheme so light, medium and dark fabrics of one colour work well to emphasise the wave effect of the design. One strip in a slightly different or contrasting colour can add interest and help the eye to follow the design. Look for images of Bargello table runners on the internet and you’ll get an idea of how designers use single and multiple colours to achieve different effects. You might like to bring along more than seven fabrics to the workshop so we can discuss choices and maybe swap a few fabric strips too!
