Last week I spent a lot of my sewing time not sewing but on my laptop writing up the ‘Cabin in the Woods‘ block pattern. At the weekend I made an executive decision (after all I am my own CEO!) to take a break from screens and do some sewing! I also spent a couple of hours on Saturday afternoon watching our youngest son playing in a light-hearted charity tennis tournament.

All this is by way of an explanation for my failure to publish a Saturday Quilting Bring & Share blog post! It will be back!

Sewing – I made good progress on the pink scrap quilt. I wanted to add a border around the scrap centre. After auditioning several fabrics from my stash I came to the conclusion that the border fabric needed to be plain to help calm down the busy scraps. Hum! I made a daft choice – shocking pink (Kona Solids ‘Valentine’)! Not a colour known for calming down any situation! After the initial intake of breath, I actually started to like the effect the bright pink border had on the quilt top as a whole. I was further reassured that my colour choice wasn’t too ‘out there’ by the positive comments received when I posted a photo on my Facebook page.

I then set about making the backing for the quilt. I found enough fabrics in my stash to come up with a predominantly turquoise backing. I made a label and incorporated that into the piecing of the backing so that job was ticked before I even basted the quilt sandwich. Even the Warm and Bright polyester wadding is the remnant from a larger project so I can definitely say this is a scrap project! I’ve called the quilt ‘Pink Supreme’ just in case there is any doubt about the colour scheme 😀

For the quilting design I’m planning to follow Amanda Jean’s Scrap Vortex Quilt, using a walking foot to stitch an off-centre spiral.

Incidentily Amanda Jean, aka Crazy Mom Quilts, recently posted an update on her latest scrap project – she’s making hundreds of tiny four patch squares.
