Saturday Quilting Bring and Share (445)

He! He! It’s Wednesday NOT Saturday but this is Blog Land and maybe having fun is more important than worrying about the day of the week?

Welcome to Saturday Quilting Bring and Share. Bring along your projects(s) and take part in the sharing going on in our Worldwide Quilting Community. Just click on the links below to begin your journey of inspiration. Remember to leave an encouraging message or join in the discussion using the comments box at the end of any blog post you visit (bloggers really do appreciate receiving comments!).

It’s been another busy week, in and out of the Sewing Room. I had it in my mind that August would be a quiet month with time to catch up and maybe even rest! I’ve enjoyed watching the Olympics but I’m not sorry for that particular distraction coming to a close – I’ve just so easily get sucked into watching ‘just one race/event’ only to find a whole evening gone!

My Sewing Room has become a place of overwhelm again with too many projects on show. I have made the August orange Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks – now I just need to trim all thirty before laying them to rest in the RSC project box 😜

Last Sunday we received lovely news from our niece – she and her husband became proud parents of a really gorgeous baby girl. Of course the patchwork part of my brain immediately went into overdrive 😃 I choose some fabrics from my stash took them along to Purple Stitches on Monday, bought some more fabric 😁, scrolled through Google, choose a pattern before cutting out and piecing on Tues & Weds. I’ll share more of the details in a separate post.

Basically this is a gingham pattern patchwork baby playmat measuring 28″ square.

This coming week my aim is to tidy away unfinished projects (again) leaving just two in view…

Here are the links into our Worldwide Quilting Community:

Rachel Hauser has made a rainbow color wheel version of her Dear Dottie quilt pattern. It looks great. I made a Dear Dottie quilt a few years ago and it is still one of my favourites. (Of course, I didn’t quite follow the pattern as I chose to use the ColorGirlQuilts Classic Curves ruler rather than the pattern templates – link to my blog post about using the Classic Curves ruler and the Dear Dottie pattern).

Do you find photographing your quilts a frustrating task? I know I do. Check out Suzy’s post for some useful tips on quilt photography.

And just like that I bought myself another quilt pattern! The Irene Quilt Pattern by Kitchen Table Quilts to be precise. It’s a modern design using strip piecing techniques and is pre-cut friendly. In my stash I have a box full of 2½” WOF strips. Most of the strips are cut from yardage, a few are left overs from Jelly Rolls, they all need to be used…

I’m preparing to make a couple of batches of zipper bags and drawstring bags to use as gifts when we visit family in SE Asia. For the zipper pouches I found this video tutorial by Christine very helpful and picked up a couple of general bag making tips too. In the video Christine mentions a previous video where she concentrates on demonstrating her method for adding tabs to both ends of the zip and inserting the zip – I think this is the best method I’ve seen for creating neat zip ends whilst minimising layers of fabric in the side seams.

No sooner said than done!

My zipper pouch made using Christine’s method, ‘How to sew perfect tabs and corners for zippered bags every time‘.

My pouch measures 7″ wide by 4½” high. I am really pleased with the neat zipper ends and I found stitching the side seams much, much easier than using the methods in other bag patterns I’ve used.

So, there we have it! Wednesday is the new Saturday! I hope I haven’t sent you into a spin!

Allison
