Welcome to an end of year Saturday Quilting Bring & Share. Not many links this time – I guess we are all a little pre-occupied, reflecting on the past year and preparing to dive into the next? Maybe not the time to be overloaded with more information? But still a good time to connect with members of our Worldwide Quilting Community 🙂
I will take this end of year opportunity to reveal my pre-Christmas secret sewing projects… There’s the tree skirt which had to be gifted late due to a pesky bout of Covid *sigh* We had to switch to Christmas Plan B but we all got to see each other, albeit a few days late, without spreading the virus.
I have published a tutorial with a free download pattern should you wish to have a go at making a tree skirt (this one is a good patchwork scrap project).
My second secret sewing project managed to travel through our much disrupted postal system and arrived at it’s destination in time for a 25th December unwrapping. This is the second Crafter’s Carry-All project bag I’ve made using the pattern by Quilters Trading Post.
The pocket fabric is from the Hedgerow collection by Dashwood Studios. I love the colours and stylised birds, butterflies and flowers in this print. For the lining I chose a neutral fabric featuring little birds to compliment the feature print 🙂 (All fabrics from Purple Stitches).
Since finishing the secret sewing I’ve had a bit of a break from the sewing room. I read my Christmas book, ‘The Janus Stone’ by Elly Griffiths, in double quick time. It took me a bit longer to complete a quite challenging Christmas jigsaw. I thoroughly enjoyed getting lost in the book and absorbed in the puzzle making – great ways to wind down.

Hmm! We are on a mission to declutter our home so joining in with Karen’s ‘The Sewing Room Declutter Challenge 2023‘ is a no-brainer for me! The Challenge begins on 1st January and I’m hoping the email prompts will stir me to declutter not only my sewing room but other areas of the house too.
If your fabric scraps are out of control or the sorting system you’ve been using is no longer working efficiently you’ll find Rachel’s post ‘How to sort + Organize your Fabric Scraps‘ has plenty of helpful advice that could be the gateway to a better organised, more usable scrap stash.
Leanne Parsons has produced a guide titled ‘Escape Scrap Overwhelm’ which is ready to download when you sign up to her email newsletter. The Guide covers sorting, storing and, very importantly, USING fabric scraps. Having been on Leanne’s email list for a couple of years I can confirm that your inbox will not be overwhelmed, in fact you will probably look forward to opening her monthly updates 🙂
