I am so excited to be able to reveal the ‘Secret Sewing’ project I was busy working on through July and August. I submitted a quilt pattern to Quilt Now magazine way back in April 2019. To my surprise and delight the pattern was accepted by Editor Bethany and her team. I was informed the quilt would be featured in issue 71 due to be published on 5th December. A deadline of 1st of September was set for me to send through the pattern instructions and a completed example of the quilt.
The design began life as a series of drafts on squared paper before I moved on to working out the final details using the EQ7 design software.
Yesterday, 5th December, I spent a lovely day with friends in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. During a walk through the town I purchased a copy of the newly published Quilt Now magazine, carried it back to the car, ripped open the packaging and thumbed through to find my quilt. How lovely to see the quilt photographed in a properly lit studio with coordinating props and to see all the instructions neatly printed alongside. There’s even a thumbnail photo of yours truly! 😀
The patchwork fabrics are Oakshott cottons, each one is made with a weft thread of a different shade of a colour woven through the horizontal warp threads.
Look closely at this photo of the Tangerine Oakshott fabric and you can see how the horizontal threads are a a darker shade of orange than the vertical threads. This is very useful if a pattern requires a graduated change of colour shade.
Now there is no secret to be kept I can at last add the ‘Modern Chains’ quilt into my 2019 Gallery and publicly declare it a finish!
