Saturday Quilting Bring and Share (447)

Welcome to Saturday Quilting Bring and Share. Settle down with your projects and take a bit of time to share in the good things being created by other members of our Worldwide Quilting Community.

We are in the midst of preparing for a special overseas trip. We will be meeting neighbours and friends of our DD, SIL & GS. We are very grateful for these locals making the newcomer family so welcome and, as it’s a custom to give little gifts on meeting people, I decided to make some mini drawstring gift bags.

These should be ideal for holding a handful of sweets from the UK and hopefully will bring a smile to the faces of their recipients. We are looking forward to expressing our thanks to those who have made separation easier for us by being so ready to befriend DD and family. I used the easy to follow, multi-size, ‘Lined Drawstring Bag’ pattern by Jeni Baker to make these bags.

The bag fabrics came from my stash. I also found a piece of fabric printed with London icons and four short zips so I made these pouches to gift.

They have the London print on one side and the blue Union Jack print on the other. I used the Christine’s Home Affairs tutorial that I hi-lighted in a recent edition of Saturday Quilting Bring and Share to make these. I like her hack for creating neat ends to the zipper.

Here are the links into our Worldwide Quilting Community:

Gretchen is a master of hand quilting and applique. In this post she shares how she’s adapted an applique pattern to fit the borders of a quilt. And there are a couple of photos of a flower bed laid out like a patchwork – now there’s an idea 🤔

Melony’s post is all about a collaborative quilt made as part of the celebrations around the 250th anniversary of the discovery of oxygen. The scientists who discovered oxygen and photosynthesis both lived in the little town of Calne in the county of Wiltshire UK where Melony lives now. The quilt is wonderful!

Rachel Hauser shares some of the colourful and inventive patterns she’s used to make quilts from a never ending supply of fabric scraps.

In her post ‘Making Soul-fulfilling Work’ Christa Watson shares the tricky navigation between creating for her business and creating for the joy of experimenting and just seeing where it takes her.

Using scraps and orphan blocks to make placemats has been JanineMarie’s main sewing project over the summer. She donates the mats to her local Meals on Wheels service.

There’s an interesting little gallery of quilts to be found attached to the Favourite Finish (August 2024) hosted by Yvonne Fuchs. Why not take a look? You might well find inspiration or a new quilty blogger to follow.

Happy stitching!

Allison

Your gift bags are a great idea, Allison! I watched the sewing tabs video by Christine this morning. Thank you for sharing that…it is a very helpful tutorial! 🙂

Thank you, I hope the bags will be well received. I’m glad you found the zipper tab tutorial helpful. I will be substituting that method to any bag pattern where it seems appropriate.
