It’s been a bit of an emotionally draining week so having pockets of time to quilt out the wavy grid design on the Modern HST Quilt has been a welcome distraction. You can read more about the process of quilting this design in my blog post, Quilting a Wavy Grid with a Walking Foot – some tips.
This morning, before heading off to work, I managed to finish the quilting and square up the quilt. I made the binding some weeks ago so that’s all ready to be attached. Hopefully this long term UFO will be completed by the end of the week 🙂
This coming week I plan to baste the blue Rail Fence quilt. It will be my on-going hand sewing project as I endeavour to quilt big stitch Baptist Fans using a 12wt thread.
But, needless to say, there’s a new squirrel on the loose in my sewing room!
The Foxwood panel and coordinating fabrics just shouted at me when I opened an email from the Sewing Studio… Like I need another project and more fabric 😁
I think I’ll adapt my Jungle Luxe pattern to accommodate the slightly smaller panel prints. Maybe this time I’ll make a wall hanging rather that a quilt? Remember my Jungle Luxe pattern is available as a FREE download for blog readers and email subscribers.

When do your light-bulb moments happen? Melva reveals hers often arrive the moment she wakes. Recently she woke up with the perfect way to make table runner using a piece of vintage linen. If I get stuck part way through a project or, more likely, procrastination sets in, I often find the solution during a wakeful period in the middle of the night. Are you quick to find a way forward or do you find benefit in ‘sleeping on it’?
Carole’s Quilt Guild used a sewing day and a free pattern to make sewing tool caddies. It’s such a cool idea – fabric pouches – with pockets – slip over an upright flyer stand to create the perfect place to store those tools we reach for when we are sewing and can’t always find.
Wendy is linking with Brother USA to host a free quilt along. Of the project Wendy writes: The Geometric Jewels Sampler quilt pattern is geared towards beginners and seasoned quilters looking to fill in any gaps and / or master their existing skill set in the craft. The quilt design is created using several different triangle blocks and Flying Geese so should be great a project for learning new techniques and practising skills.
The Rainbow Scrap Challenge has stalled in my sewing room But Cathy is an inspiration as she finds more than one way to use her red fabric scraps (red is the RSC colour for February, I’ve still got a pile of January’s green blocks to complete).
Diann’s scrappy Bow Tie quilt has finished at just the right size to become her cosy companion while she stitches up her next project.
Cheryl has made a version of her quilt pattern, ‘Board & Baton’ using Kona Pepper as the background fabric. This makes the bright squares and HSTs pop. I’m not a fan of using black in quilts so I will bear Pepper and maybe Kona Nautical in mind for future projects that need that ‘popping agent’!
