There’s not much to see here patchwork quilting wise. I’m plugging on with hand stitching the binding of the BIG Irish Chain quilt. It measures 76″ square so that’s 304″ of binding to stitch down 😛

I’ve had a couple of purposeful, sit down sessions stitching but my main strategy is to think of it as a ‘filler’ activity so I’m using the odd free 10 minutes here, 15 minutes there to do some stitching. As always I am prone to distractions. No surprise then that last weekend I found myself learning how to crochet 😃

My first Granny Square.
I walked a 4 mile round trip to my ‘local’ wool shop, bought a little crochet starter kit and set to work. I found starting the rounds really fiddly. In the end the best beginners resource I found was a video tutorial on the LoveCrafts You Tube channel. Once I’d got the hang of it I really enjoyed the rhythm of crochet stitching. However, I have regained discipline, carefully stored away the Granny Square and the crochet hook, ready to redouble my efforts to finish stitching down the binding of the Irish Chain quilt.
This coming week I’m hoping to finish the quilt and maybe, maybe resume another half-finished project…

Lots of quilt groups find a lovely sense of unity in creating comfort blankets for local charities. Katie has been working on a ‘panel challenge’ quilt to donate to local children via the police department. It’s a really cute quilt: alphabet animals with ombre borders and a soft, wavy quilting design.
And Cathy is a prolific charity quilt maker too. Her latest finish is a ‘Hidden Log Cabin’ quilt made from flannel 2½” strips. It looks very effective in a limited number of bright colours.
Got to love a scrappy quilt especially when the scraps have come from the stash of another quilter. Both Deb and Katie have been making coin stack quilts from collections of scraps. See Deb’s flimsy here and see Katie’s coin stacks taking shape here.
Yvonne is hosting the Favourite Finish link up for February. It’s a lovely gallery of finished patchwork items in all sorts of styles. Why not take a look and click on your favourites to discover some new quilty bloggers?
Take a bit of time to reflect on inspiration and the possibilities of using AI to aid us through the process of coming up with something new by reading Rachel’s post. She is a textile artist who uses the natural world around her for inspiration.
Happy Stitching!

I admire anyone that hand stitches anything! I lack the patience for that skill! My mum has gorgeous delicate hand stitching 😍 Good luck with the crochet I enjoy that too when time allows 😊
Hi! Dawn. I definitely have to be in the mood for hand stitching. Most of my quilts these days, especially those for children, have machine stitched binding. My Mum was never much of a hand stitcher, she was a very accomplished knitter though.
