To Saturday Quilting Bring & Share π I hope you’ve had a good week and can take a few minutes, with a project close by, to enjoy some of the creations, tips and ideas that have been shared by our Worldwide Quilting Community. You’ll find lots of links below and, of course, you can join in by leaving an encouraging/helpful response to what you read in the comments box at the end of each blog post.
I felt a bit unsettled this week despite/because of having a few days with nothing in my diary. It’s how I usually feel at the start of a holiday – restless and anxious that I should be doing something but I don’t know what! Not much sewing got done. My main achievement was stitching all the odd shaped I-Spy scrap blocks into the centre of a quilt top.
Borders have been added too. The top measures 44″ x 54″. Next I’ll put together a pieced backing.

I’ve also been preparing for my Workshop and Sewing Social. Five ladies have signed up and I’m looking forward to teaching a fabric basket workshop in the morning and relaxing into the social in the afternoon. And Rachel shares her process of choosing and replacing fabrics as she plans a quilt on her design wall – I find her approach really helpful as I sometimes get mad with myself for changing my mind about fabrics, calling myself a procrastinator when maybe I should call myself a ‘thinker’?
Mari has a stunning quilt finish to share in a bright seasonal colour palette. The yellow, blue and white fabric combo speaks to me of the transition from Spring into full Summer.
Laura regularly takes us for ‘a stroll in the garden’ and combining photos of the beautiful blooms she finds with thought-provoking quotes – this post has a theme of motherhood.
Wow! What a stunning gallery of quilts shared by Gretchen following the Sauder Quilt Show. Gretchen received a prize for her winning quilt in the form of a locally made commemorative plate.
Rachel continues to play with the fabrics she’s using for a medallion type quilt. It’s so interesting following her process of placing and replacing fabrics until the ‘right’ combination is achieved.
I think patchwork lends itself very well to the ‘one thing leads to another’ brand of creativity. Aby shared a friend’s adaptation of the ‘Potato Chip’ block and then rose to a challenge to make one herself. Of course this involved a few alterations (and a bit of math) to come up with a fresh version of the Potato Chip quilt
Joni asks a provocative question, ‘Do you ever get stuck in a rut?’ under the heading ‘The Biggest Mistake Quilters Make‘. If you think your creative has or might be stalling take a read of her article!
Yet another scrap quilt top finished by Cathy. I like the way her Snowball blocks create stars and how she has used partial Snowball blocks to complete the stars and create a border.
Vicki’s cup cake table runner is a perfect party piece!
It’s about time I owned a proper needle book instead of the scruffy bits of wadding I stitched together years ago! I found an easy to follow tutorial on You Tube and will be giving it a go during the social part of the Workshop and Sewing Social this weekend.
