My happy postal delivery this week was the arrival of a pack of Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 wadding. I unwrapped it and spread it over my thinking seat overnight to help ease out some of the creases. On Thursday morning I pushed all the sitting room furniture against the walls to clear a large enough floor space to spread out the quilt backing. The twin size wadding was a near perfect fit. I smoothed the quilt top over the wadding and backing before fastening a few pins near the centre, just to keep the layers in position. Despite the absence of Weetabix at breakfast I did manage to find the strength to manoeuvre a rather heavy gateleg table from the further end of the house to take advantage of the space in the sitting room. Once the table was set up I adopted the pre-basting ‘flipping and smoothing’ technique shared by Emily Denis over on her IG feed. It’s a bit too soon in the quilting process to say for sure if this helps to reduce the occurrence of puckers or wrinkles but it’s got to be worth a try (it certainly was an effective way of warming up on a chilly day!).

As for the other projects I’ve chosen to keep ‘live’ in the run up to Christmas I must admit I’ve been curiously reluctant to get going with the final stages of the knitted cardigan. Every time I sit down in my favourite armchair by the garden door I find myself reaching for a book rather than my knitting! Ah! Well! Motivation will arrive at some point…. In the meantime I’m motoring through a re-read of the Dr Ruth Galloway mysteries by Ellie Griffiths 🙃
I’ve been working extra hours this week which gives me more opportunities to enjoy the Autumn colours as my route takes me through a park in the centre of my home town. Early morning and late afternoon walks are a real treat this time of year. The low angled sun really brings out the best of the Autumn colours.

Playing with triangles and angles is Sheila Christensen’s patchwork speciality (look out for her excellent book, ‘Quilts with an Angle’). Over on her blog she’s she’s been trying out the effects of different colour palettes on her pattern called ‘Diamond Glow’. It’s a pattern that certainly invites colour play.
I love the simplicity of Diann’s Christmas wall hanging. Just the word ‘JOY’ created from 2½” squares. I can feel a meander coming on! 😁
