I have thoroughly enjoyed making Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks through 2022. I chose an easy way to get into the Challenge this year by utilising Angela’s Bullseye Court House Steps block pattern. Each month I made five light and five dark blocks following the colour prompts up to and including orange in August. The Challenge blocks became my sewing day project so the blocks themselves hold lots of happy memories of gentle, fun hours sewing with friends.
A few stats about my RSC22 quilt:
- Made almost entirely from scraps and stash fabrics. I did purchase a few low volume FQs when my in-house supplies ran out!
- Eighty 7″ blocks in a 8 x 10 layout. Finished quilt measures 54″ x 70″.
- Pieced backing using stash fabrics.
- Quilted with echoing arcs using 50wt Aurifil variegated thread, no. 3817.
- Binding: scrappy double-fold, colour matched to the blocks (more or less!). Stitched to the back of the quilt before being zig-zag stitched on the front of the quilt.
All-in-all a very relaxed and enjoyable project. This is the third year I’ve followed the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I definitely recommend it if you’d like to have a project ticking away in the background – something to turn to when a bit of easy going piecing is required 🙂 I’m sure I’ll be joining in next year because, funnily enough, I still have a ready supply of rainbow of scraps to use!
