Saturday Quilting Bring and Share (263)

by | Jul 4, 2021 | Inspiration, Quilting Community, Works In Progress | 6 comments

Welcome to Saturday Quilting Bring & Share πŸ™‚ Bring along your project(s) and be inspired by some of what’s been shared in our Worldwide Quilting Community this past week. If you click on any of the links below (which I hope you do!) please do leave an encouraging message in the comments box for the writers of the posts. Thank you!

I’ve not been using up much fabric or thread this week instead I’ve been busy designing and re-designing a quilt suitable for a beginners class. I had to make three versions of the ‘Squares-in-a-Square’ block before I hit upon the perfect formula.

I was seeking to use cutting measurements that didn’t involve using 1/8th inch increments along with piecing which allowed for a bit of ‘wiggle room’ so the points of the four patch wouldn’t be cut off when the block is stitched to it’s neighbouring blocks… Got there in the end with cutting measurements to 1/4″ and a 3/8th of an inch seam allowance at the points! Phew!

Today I worked on the Scrappy Scrap Basket tutorial I’ll be posting on Thursday as part of the Summer Scrap Elimination 2021 blog hop. I had some major brain fog problems so I actually ended up creating a few more scraps instead of eliminating them πŸ˜€ Never mind! I have a new basket to keep the new scraps tidy!

On Wednesday I published a post about the current state of our local quilt groups/guilds. Terry contributed a very interesting reply. Please do take time to have a read and add your experience to the ‘What’s Happening to Quilt Guilds in 2021’ discussion.

Here is this weeks selection of inspiring and intriguing blog posts written by members of our Worldwide Quilting Community:

JanineMarie is keeping up with the 2021 Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Her scrappy triangle blocks are very effective especially when grouped together. It’s going to be a beautiful quilt – the blocks look similar to 19th Century Crazy Patchwork but made in modern prints.

If you enjoy a tour of a sewing room (without going green with envy!)and picking up storage ideas then head over to Rebecca Grace’s blog post. She’s been rearranging her sewing space to accommodate a new long arm machine.

Do you have fond memories of dressing paper dolls? Well Melva has taken this activity a step further and made a dress-up doll quilt! Melva shares her process for making the doll blocks and their clothes. Such a clever idea and sure to be a hit with the child who receives it.

Carole has shared a two part tutorial introducing us to ‘pin weaving‘ using fabric strips to weave and fuse ready to make a bag.

Charisma reviews a book by Heather Black called ‘Design Make Quilt Modern – taking a quilt from inspiration to reality‘. Charisma found the comprehensive scope of the book very inspiring, concluding ‘It gives great insight as to how to tackle designing in a manageable way’.

Week 3 of Summer Scrap Elimination 2021 and Swan Sheridan shares another great tutorial building a quick quilt from small rectangular scraps.

Linking with Alycia for Finished or Not Friday. Alycia found some prepared fabric squares amongst her sewing and made a sweet little baby quilt – quick, surprise projects can be such a blessing can’t they?

Happy stitching!

Allison

I look forward to your posts each week. You provide inspiration from what you are working on and from other interesting bloggers. I have followed your bog for quite a while and you have introduced me to many others. We have some bloggers in common.
The downside is that I can’t start my chores until I have read and explored all of your site and recommendations. But dust and dishes can wait until I feed my quilting soul. Thank you. I just want to let you know you are appreciated.

Gretchen thank you so much for taking time to write such an encouraging message. It means a lot to me. I’m glad you look forward to these Saturday Quilting Bring & Share posts and find the links inspiring – if not a little distracting! There are so many interesting quilting bloggers to follow aren’t there? I find the generous sharing and enthusiasm for the craft a heartening world to be a part of πŸ™‚

Hi Allison! Not much sewing happening in my life. I’ve taken quite a few genealogy rabbit hole trips this week. Ha, ha! It has been a fun break for me, but I do enjoy exploring your links, so thanks for sharing! πŸ™‚

Thanks for your encouraging message Laura. I imagine genealogy rabbit holes lead into a whole network of warrens… You could be gone some time!

Very cool green blocks – but I really like your scrap basket!! Never mind it made more scraps – you needed to have something to put in the basket right??

Ha! Ha! I could end up with a room full of baskets overflowing with scraps left from making baskets! πŸ˜€
