Hi! It’s good to be back here on the blog! I’ve been working some extra hours in the shop and last Saturday began teaching the Beginner’s Course so there have been fewer hours available to read or compose blog posts. But that doesn’t mean there’s been nothing going on here at New Every Morning Patchwork and Quilting! Jo Amos of Geek Fairy Design Studios has been busy refreshing the look and functionality of the site. It’s been great working with Jo and very reassuring to know she will be keeping an eye on the site going forwards 🙂

In my sewing room I was concentrating on items to add to the Christmas section of my Folksy shop before I got completely distracted by a pop-up advert for a knitting pattern! I know! It’s shocking just how effective those ads on social media can be! I bought the pattern as a download from the HobbyCraft site and then went looking elsewhere for the Hayfield Aran weight yarn.

The two giant 400g balls arrived in the post a few days later. Of course, I decided before I could even cast on a row of stitches that what I really needed was a craft bag. Out came the Crafter’s Carry All pattern by Quilters Trading Post which had been sitting on my shelf waiting for just such an occasion. It was very pleasing to complete the bag entirely from stash fabrics and wadding scraps.

My Autumnal knitting bag:

I made a few changes to the methods used in the pattern (a few of the instructions assumed experience/skills that I don’t possess but I’ve done enough bag-making to be willing to ‘fudge it’!). The pattern does advise using a firm wadding. I just used what I had available. My bag is a bit squashy although the sides do stand upright without support. If I make another Crafter’s Carry All I’ll use a double layer of wadding in the side panels – perhaps a fusible fleece layer within the margins of the seam allowances combined with cotton mix wadding extending into the seam allowances…
