I spent a good bit of the week preparing for the start of another run of the Beginners Patchwork & Quilting course. Last time I taught the Course I made this version of the quilt:

Now, in my year of creative Meandering, I went ‘out there’ in my fabric choices, adapted the pattern to make a Bargello style patchwork and, as a result, have this super-bright creation on my design wall!

I need to choose fabric for the border…. I’m thinking to stick with the bright theme, I may even plump for another print by Alison Glass. I’ll take the patchwork into work with me and have a play around with the bolts of fabric… There’s a lot of fun to be had working in a fabric store 😉

I fully intended to take some photos of the beginners in action on Saturday but we got so absorbed in cutting and arranging our fabric squares that I completely forgot to reach for my camera. Hopefully I’ll be able to step back and take a few snaps when we meet for the second session of the three part course.

It’s well worth putting your feet up and taking time to visit Cheryl’s annual ‘Best of’ link party. The Best of 2022 provides a wonderful gallery of links into the work or quilting bloggers around the World. I’ve discovered some new to me members of the Worldwide Quilting Community, learned a lot via the tutorials and tips people have shared and, of course, been inspired by the quilt projects on display.

Krista has a great little tutorial for using up scraps to make a baby quilt along with tips showing how she keeps columns of sashing strips in a straight line 🙂

There’s a wonderful gallery of Lone Star quilts in Anorina’s post. I love the varied interpretations of this awesome traditional patchwork design by the 2022 Island Batik Ambassadors.

Away from the sewing room I am thoroughly enjoying reading the Ruth Galloway mystery books by Elly Griffiths. I started reading the series thanks to a recommendation by Linda at Flourishing Palms. I find the characters engaging, the lack of foul language a real boon, and the story lines have enough surprises, without tying my brain in knots, to be an absorbing read. Funny what following a patchwork-quilting blog can lead to!
