Snap Shut Phone Case

Well! This must be a first for me: I started a project at 8.30am this morning and here I am just four hours later proudly declaring a FINISH! I’ve made a snap shut case for my first ever smart phone.

I used a tutorial from my ‘archive’ to remind myself how to make these versatile pouch/pocket/case/purse thingys. This tutorial is my most read blog post having been accessed several times every week since the original was posted in June 2015 🙂
I have a collection of these cases: the first (featured in the tutorial) made for my tablet, the second (with handy wrist strap) for my camera and this third one for my phone.

The key component is a length of metal ruler from retractable measure to create the snap shut closure. So simple and so effective 🙂

Having rigged up a variegated quilting thread in my machine to decorate the phone case I took the opportunity to add the quilting to a pot holder I made a few weeks ago. This piece was used to demonstrate the turn-inside out, no-binding method of making a quilt sandwich. It has been sitting around my sewing room ever since saying ‘quilt me!’

So really that’s TWO finishes to share with Amanda Jean at Crazy Mom Quilts for Finish It Up Friday – whatever next? Maybe I’ll finish a UFO or two… Ho!Ho!Ho!
As a footnote to having my first ever smart phone I do now have an Instagram account – find me at allisonreid.neweverymorning. Looking forward to linking with you on IG 🙂
