Stitching things together: my sewing machine, my laptop and me!

This past week I’ve done a lot of thinking and linking around patchwork & quilting but not a lot of stitching with actual needle and thread.

As you can see from my design wall there’s been more than one project on the go this week. I managed to put together the quilt centre of the scrappy pink quilt. There’s one big block left over – that might well become part of a pieced backing for this quilt. And for something completely different, I quickly pieced a 12″ version of the cabin block from my ‘Into the Woods’ runner (the block in the runner finishes 8″ square).

Do I have enough scraps?

Bin of pink scraps by Allison ReidDo I have a enough scraps? 😀 Well! As it happens, yes I do! Earlier this year I made a scrap quilt (see photo at bottom of this post) combining Amanda Jean Nyberg’s excellent Scrap Vortex method with a leader-ender technique. Low and behold it turns out that making one scrap quilt doesn’t get anywhere near resolving the issue of overflowing scrap boxes… So, I embarked on another scrap quilt, this time using a pink colour scheme rather than blue.

Hampshire Open Studios ended on Monday so I spent the start of this week clearing away the quilt display in my sewing room, through the corridor and into the kitchen. At the end of the week I transformed the sewing room into a guest room. Before my sewing machine and table were packed away I managed to finish the table runner I’ve called ‘Into the Woods’. I added fancy stitching to the crazy patchwork panels and machine stitched the binding in place.
